dr. stephen strange, ph.d, m.d., master of the new york sanctum β a man capable of great good and great evil. someone who thinks too much and feels too little, or feels too much and thinks too little. one ego trip away from destroying a universe or from sacrificing himself to save one person. a man of extremes.
but that's how he's always been. if he's going to do something, he will commit to it. if he's going to commit to something, he will excel and be the best. he puts his whole heart into it, even if at times it seems as though he doesn't have one. ego and self-conceit are shields against hurt, grief, and vulnerability. for someone with the powers of a god, he is afraid to be human.
or consider that being an arrogant and cold prick is his nature. he'll always sacrifice others, commit crimes against the natural order, and withdraw help to retain his spotless record and boost his ego. he always plays to win, even if it's morally wrong. so, asshole fancy-pants surgeon becomes asshole fancy-pants wizard. the only difference now is a kooky cape and a groovy goatee. maybe the ancient one was optimistic, or delusional and wrong when she proclaimed that stephen would be the best of them.
but stephen always needs to be the best. maybe he will prove to be the best of them. or maybe not.
since it's unknown what he's been up to since jumping into a portal with charlize theron in the midcredits scene in mom, i would prefer to play an au. however, i am happy to play canon and even bounce around his timeline. the default is post-mom, pre-midcredits scene: he has the third eye but is still in new york city.
up to date with the current mcu film (not so much the tv), but he might be unaware of current events.

- middle child; older brother is victor, younger sister donna. he wasn't blamed for donna's death (how could he be? he was ten, after all), but the anger and resentment from his parents and brother were still present. the gulf and separation between them was still present. the guilt was still present.
- his arrogance and egotism drove his family away. the car accident was a way to mend the bridges between them, but his anger and resentment drove them away again. an opportunity arose after stephen became the master of the new york sanctum, but then the blip happened. stephen was blipped. victor was blipped, but his wife and children were not. she moved on and had remarried. well now, the bridge between stephen and his family is damaged beyond repair. the name "strange" has made them pariahs.
- he knows latin and greek because he thought it'd make him cool (it did not).

- MASTER OF THE MYSTIC ARTS β he has an innate gift for sorcery, in mere months surpassing his teachers and becoming the master of the new york sanctum (located at 177a bleecker st., greenwich village). he was the leading candidate to become the new sorcerer supreme, but the blip put a kibosh on those aspirations. his powers include a mastery of:
- astral projection
- conjugation
- eldritch magic
- energy projection
- mirror dimension magic
- portal creation (including dimensional travel)
- spell casting
- telekinesis
- teleportation
- transmutation
the cloak of levitation gives him the ability of flight (not to mention is a third set of hands), and the eye of agamotto allows him to see through illusions. - THIRD EYE β unlocked by the darkhold, but so far, it's unknown how it operates in the mcu. **while i will mention and even joke about it, he won't use or reveal the third eye until it's explained in the mcu. i assume he was always destined to access it and gain more power. but if it was supposed to be opened by the darkhold, what does it mean, if it affects his personality or morals, and if it's different than the comics, has not been explained yet.**
- GENIUS LEVEL INTELLECT β he can learn and master fields of study quickly and easily. not only that, but he's a former neurosurgeon with extensive knowledge and experience in medicine.
- PHOTOGRAPHIC MEMORY β "it's how i got my m.d. and ph.d at the same time." also how he was able to memorize and understand the spells required to unlock and use the eye of agamotto.
- INDOMITABLE WILL β his mind is fortified enough that he can resist psychic intrusion and control. **for a telepath like charles xavier whose power is not magic-based, i am open to the possibility that stephen's mind can be read and controlled.**
- HAND-TO-HAND COMBAT β the mystic arts is more than learning spells. it also stresses muscle control and fighting skills. he's decent.
- BILINGUALISM β fluent in english and, presumably, classical sanskrit. in addition, he's probably picked up some spanish since meeting america chavez.
- ATTIRE β dark blue tunic and trousers (the robes of a disciple of the ancient one); black boots; brown bracers; a gold sling ring hangs on a brown belt. the cloak of levitation (red; "twelfth-century design by the weaver enitharmon. has a mind of its own.") and the eye of agamotto around his neck. reference (ignore the dead body).
sadly, we don't see him in civilian clothing very often so i'm going with a dark academia aesthetic: tweed, dark colors, and wool pullovers. always with a red accent. effortlessly cool and stylish. - AURAL β a rich baritone voice. although he's from philadelphia, he has no trace of an accent.
- DEMEANOR β intimidating, brisk, reserved but he is a perfectly nice and polite guy. he cuts a striking enough figure that people's eyes tend to gravitate to him.
- OLFACTORY β an old library, surrounded by books, mahogany furniture, ink, and coffee: earthy, woodsy, spicy, and a little metallic. he smells pleasant even when sweating and bleeding.
- VISUAL β lean and wiry (6'0"). though he relies on his magical abilities rather than brute strength, he still keeps in shape. sharp eyes that alternate between icy blue and pale green depending on the light. a black goatee. white hair at the temple that has become more prominent throughout the years. faint scars from the accident and numerous surgeries crisscross his hands and fingers.
